Some people wonder if it is more search engine friendly to get a .com as opposed to others.  Pretty much the only difference .com has is memorization.

Everyone knows .com and .net, some even know .org or .edu’s, but how many know of .info or .biz.  Let’s say you tell someone about your wonderful http://yourbusiness.info domain, they go home and go to http://yourbusiness.com and end up on someone else’s site.

Honestly people naturally go with what they are accustomed to so their minds automatically revert to the .com domains.  Unless of course they wrote it down or you gave them a business card.

I personally use .com domains for all my businesses to make sure people type them correctly.  The only time I use other extensions are when I want a 100% keyword match for my domain name.  My case is different, since I advertise on search engines, the first time they see my link on their page is as a . whatever and about 16% of my visitors bookmark my pages.  If there is any problem, they can just do a google search again to find me.

I also use .info domains for adsense websites, they are only $0.99 and I can host 1000 on one of my hosting accounts so it is perfect for adsense usage.
